Aston's mission with the DBS was to make a car that James Bond would be pleased to drive. The rumours it was just a DB9 in a new suit are unfounded though. This is much more like the old hardcore Vanquish S in terms of experience.

As with all current Aston Martins the engine is hand-assembled at Aston Martin’s dedicated engine facility in Cologne, Germany. Its huge six litre, V12 engine churns out 510hp and 5,750lb-ft of torque, so it'll out-muscle and out-accelerate the vast majority of vehicles on the road. Its light too, in a first for Aston, many body panels are made of carbon fibre which along with the carbon-ceramic brake discs help to save around 42kg. You'll go for days, even weeks at a time before you see another car that can keep up with DBS' 0-60mph time of 4.3 seconds and 191mph top speed.

The DBS stops as quickly as it accelerates as well. Huge vented carbon-ceramic brakes and custom-designed Pirelli tyres help bring the car from 60mph to a standstill in around 35m, which is half the typical distance quoted by the Highway Code (if your stomach can handle it). The DBS is the best handling car Aston has ever produced. To take full advantage of its rigid platform, the DBS employs a new and sophisticated Adaptive Damping System (ADS) which uses two separate valves to set the dampers to five different positions, allowing instant adjustment of the car’s ride and handling characteristics. It ensures that stiffer dampers are available for better handling and control when the car is being driven enthusiastically, without compromising ride comfort during normal driving conditions.

Our DBS is painted in stunning metallic 'storm black'. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in grey suede and black leather with sparkling graphite-backed dashboard instruments. In-car entertainment is the high-end Bang & Olufsen Beosound DBS audio system. Comprising 13 separate speakers, its most impressive components are a punchy 20cm (8-inch) subwoofer. This car oozes sophistication everywhere it travels, the DBS causes passers-by to engage you in conversation, children to take photos on their mobile phones and grown ups of every gender will wish they were you.
